As the German online magazine Spiegel Online reports, the former Secretary of Education of North Rhine-Westphalia, Gabriele Behler, is not allowed to help teaching at a school without being paid for it.Behler, skilled teacher of German language and literature studies and history, had offered a school, which is short of teachers at present, to help out by giving German classes unsalaried. The principal agreed immediately but the School Supervisory Board declined the offer due to the fact that unpaid work would not be possible due to contractual reasons. Now a female student has taken over - and gets paid for it.
Things like this are really sad. Somebody wants to help in two ways (helping teach and saving the state some money) but is not allowed to. Let's hope they will think about this and change it in the near future.
